To start off this manicure I used a metallic gold, Essie Good As Gold. For a contrasting effect, I suggest using a metallic polish as the base. I used a different design on each nail, but you could do all the nails the same or just have a design on one accent nail. For two of the nails I filled in half of the nail with black. On the middle nail I used a black nail art polish to draw vertical stripes. I painted an X on the pinky nail and then filled in the top and bottom with vertical stripes. I finished it off with the Out The Door top coat. XOX ♥
For Christmas and Christmas Eve I wore the Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Nail Color in Red Carpet. Red Carpet has been my favorite red and favorite holiday color for a couple years now and I've worn it for Christmas the last couple years. The formula is great and I really like the subtle shimmer. Merry Christmas!
XOX ♥ Price: $9 * Buy At: Ulta * Size: 0.5 fl oz Zoya Yuna described as a warm grey with copper and gold shimmer. It's a tough color to describe; the base is on the neutral side, but it definitely has a blue green tone as well. Yuna is a part of the Ignite collection for Fall 2014. Yuna has a thin and easy to apply formula and the glitter was easy to spread all over the nails. I used two coats of Yuna in the swatch photos. XOX ♥
This nail art look is a great way to do Christmas or winter nail art if you prefer darker colors and aren't a fan of the more cutesy nail art looks. For the base color for this nail look I used one coat of a navy cream (Zoya Sailor) and one coat of a cobalt shimmer (Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Pacific Blue - new version). You could do this look with a white polish, but since black polish is easier to work with, I chose black. First I added a stripe of black to the tip of each of the nails to create the "ground". I applied a thin coat of glitter (Pure Ice Don't You Wish) to the remaining blue background. On the index finger I used a dotting tool and black polish (Sinful Colors Time Off) to create a shadowed version of a snowman. I used the same black polish on the ring finger to create a triangular tree. For the pinky I used a white polish (OPI Alpine Snow) to make a northern star, which is perfect for Christmastime. Once the designs had dried, I went back in with the white polish to make little snow flakes in the background. XOX ♥
I love drawing mandala designs, so I had to figure out a way to do them on the nails! It's not quite as detailed on the nails, but it still creates a very cool kind of floral look. For the base of the nails, I used Milani Power Periwinkle on all the nails except for the ring finger, which I used OPI Alpine Snow. Once the ring fingernail has dried, I moved on to the mandala design. Darker colors will work best for the outer "ring", I used Zoya Hunter. Using a large dotting tool, I drew a circle of large dots around the nail. You could make the circle somewhat small like I did, but I also think it would look cool if you filled the width of the nail. Once the green dried, I used the dotting tool with Alpine Snow inside of each of the green dots. For the next "ring" I used Power Periwinkle, this time putting the dots in between the green dots. Once it dried I applied the white dots on the inside. For the last "ring" I just created a very large dot with American Apparel Neon Orange and applied a clear rhinestone to the center when the polish got tacky. For the finishing touches I added a small dot of the periwinkle in between the green dots and I added little orange dots above each green dot. And of course, use a top coat to make sure the design doesn't have a bumpy look. XOX ♥
Price: $2.49 * Buy At: Target * Size: 11.8 mL The Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Nail Color in Mauve Over is a medium-dark mauve cream. I figured this polish would be in a collection, since it was in a separate display, but the display didn't say anything about a collection. While this could be a a boring color to lots of people, I really like neutral nail colors and I happen to really like colors like this! Like most of the Xtreme Wear Polishes, Mauve Over has a very opaque formula and only needs one coat to completely cover the nail. I applied two coats of Mauve Over in the swatches. XOX ♥
Price: $8 * Buy At: Ulta * Size: 0.6 fl oz The Orly Nail Lacquer in Mirrorball is an intense holographic silver with rainbow reflect. I feel that good holographic polishes are hard to find from mainstream nail polish brands, but Mirrorball is absolutely amazing. With one coat it is very sheer, but with three it's completely opaque and gorgeous. The formula of the polish is pretty thin, so it's easy to layer and dries quickly. The glitter does not leave the finished nails feeling gritty, and it also doesn't need a top coat. Three coats of Mirrorball are shown in the swatches. XOX ♥
