Yes, I know my nails don't look perfect...but here is my Halloween manicure for this year! Polishes Used: Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear White On (White), Maybelline ColorShow Twilight Rays (Black), Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Mellow Yellow (Yellow), Pure Ice Don't You Wish (Glitter), Nails Inc Holland Park (purple), Nailtini Mai Tai (Orange), Sinful Colors Nail Art Black (Black details) & LA Colors Art Deco White (White details) To begin this manicure, I painted all my nails a base color. My thumb was painted black (the polish I used had gold glitter in it), my middle finger was painted orange, my pinky was painted white & my ring and index fingers were painted purple. The thumb was the easiest, once the black base dried, I followed up with one coat of my glitter topcoat. For the index finger (spider web) after the purple base dried, I free handed a spider web with a nail art brush. The nail art polish was quite goopy and difficult to work with, so sorry about the slightly messy spiderweb. I also added some of the glitter topcoat over the spiderweb. On the middle finger (polka dots) I used a dotting tool and the black polish to evenly dot my nail, I also used the glitter topcoat on this nail. For the ring finger (jack o' lantern) I used a white polish to paint the shape of the pumpkin before the orange to make it vibrant. Again, my nail art polish was goopy (I really need to get some new ones) and It was difficult to get the perfect lines I was hoping for. For the jack o' lantern I free handed the triangle eyes, nose & the mouth. Lastly was the pinky finger (candy corn ombre) which I ended up switching the yellow and orange, I guess I thought candy corn went white-yellow-orange. For the ombre, I painted 3 stripes on a makeup sponge and sponged all over my nail until the colors blended together. I hope this manicure can give you some ideas for your Halloween nail art!
XOX ♥ I am aware that Sephora's new nail polish line has come out and this line is sadly gone, but, you can still get this shade online for $4.50 and it is too pretty to not share with you! Sephora by OPI I Only Shop Vintage is a really pretty shimmery gold bronze polish. Even though this is a shimmery polish, it's almost opaque in one coat (I did 2 in the swatches). The formula was great, it wasn't streaky, it wasn't patchy and it dried really quickly. XOX ♥
BurgundyI have really been getting into burgundy lately, and what better way to wear it than nail polish? I also think that burgundy really flatters cool, pink skin tones like mine. The burgundy polish that I love is Cinnasnap from Sally Hansen Insta-Dri. Cinnasnap has a creme finish and was opaque with 2 coats. This line also has a thick brush, if that's what you like. Deep GreenForest Green nails can flatter all skin tones, even my pale skin tone. It's very earthy and natural, and even though it is a color polish, it still goes with every outfit you wear. My favorite is Hunter from the Zoya Fall 2013 Cashmere collection. Hunter is perfectly opaque with 2 coats and has a creme finish. Deep Purple-GreyI find that off-grey or off-black polishes are really chic and interesting for the cooler months. One of my favorite off-grey polishes is Grey Area from Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear. This shade has a creme finish and is opaque with in one coat. Gold Flake Top CoatI think that a gold flake top coat looks absolutely stunning over dark fall polishes and sort of resembles the falling leaves. My pick for a gold flakie top coat is Zoya Maria-Luisa from the Zoya Fall 2013 Satin collection. This polish really packs on the flakes with one coat and the clear base is not goopy at all.
I love more polishes than just these in the fall, but I thought I would share 4 of my favorite colors for fall! XOX ♥ Maria Luisa is a gold flakie top coat from Zoya's Fall 2013 Satin collection. Maria Luisa has the best formula of any glitter top coat I have tried. The clear base wasn't goopy at all and it only took one coat to completely cover the nail in gold flakes. I also really like that Maria Luisa dries to a very smooth finish, unlike some glitter top coats. Layered over Zoya FlynnLayered over Zoya HunterXOX ♥
Price: $9 * Buy At: Ulta * Size: 15 mL/0.5 fl oz Tomoko is a stunning white-gold champagne textured polish from Zoya's Fall 2013 line of Pixie Dust Polishes. As I said, Tomoko is stunning. It's so shiny and reflective in a glamorous way without being over the top. Application was easy, despite the texture. Tomoko was a little sheer, but that is due to the light color. Shown in the swatched is 3 coats of Tomoko. Tomoko dried really quickly, so it was easy to apply 3 coats without ending up ruining the polish. (Sorry about the bit of black on my middle finger, it is stained and would not come off!) XOX ♥
Price: $8 * Buy At: Ulta * Size: 15 mL / 0.5 fl oz Zoya is a dark navy creme from Zoya's Fall 2013 Cashmere Collection. I really like this color because it isn't too dark, but it's still a navy. Sailor even has the slightest bit of a purple tint on me. The formula of Sailor was very similar to Zoya Hunter. It's thin, but very opaque. Because of this, it's best to apply Sailor with medium to thick coats. Sailor wasn't patchy at all and had a really nice glossiness to it with two coats. XOX ♥
Price: $8 * Size: 15 mL / 0.5 oz * Buy At: Zoya's Website Zoya Gemma is an olive green with a lilac duochrome from Zoya's Intimate collection. I'm not sure if you can still find this one at Ulta, but you can still buy it directly from Zoya. I don't really notice the lilac duochrome on my nails, but it is present in the bottle. Gemma wasn't as opaque as the other colors I have from Zoya, but it is ranked 4 out of a 1 to 5 scale of opacity on Zoya's website. It took me 3 coats to get the opacity in the photos, and it probably could even have used another coat.
Price: $8 * Buy At: Ulta * Size: 0.5 fl oz / 15 mL Zoya Hunter is a deep forest green creme from Zoya's Fall 2013 Cashmere collection. Hunter was a thinner polish, but it still managed to be easily opaque in one coat. (I used 2 in the swatches just to make sure it was super opaque) The formula was really easy to work with and didn't leave uneven patches on the nails. XOX ♥
